| “HUGS FROM HOME” for the troops |
| Thank you to all!! |
| The final tally of Girl Scout cookies donated was over 1484 boxes. $5194.00 was raised to purchase the cookies! This became a community effort with enthusiasm spreading beyond Commerce Twp. The Lakes Area Hawks football and cheerleading league is proud of what they have done and will continue these efforts in the future to support our troops any way they can! |
| There were so many people, organizations, and families that contributed, we can’t list them all but know that you are very appreciated. Most importantly our troops appreciate you and your support to them! |

| “Hugs From Home” is born. |
| The Lakes Area Hawks Football & Cheerleading League along with local Girl Scout Troop 778 joined forces to start up a campaign for the last two weeks gathering donations to purchase Girl Scout cookies to send to our troops in Iraq. Many in the Hawks organization, including many young players, have family members who are in active duty in Iraq. |
| The idea came from Hawks parents Mary & Ned Timmons of Commerce Twp. They recently sent over 500 pizzas that were graciously received by the troops that received them. Their thought was to keep sending items that reminded the servicemen & women of home. Since Girl Scout cookies are a staple in everyone’s cupboard and so many of us have grown up with them, why not send the one thing that truly is from home! |

| The Timmons along with Pete Lesner, President of the Lakes Area Hawks, and his wife Michele both have sons in Iraq currently, with one on his second tour of duty. Together they spread the word and involved not only the Hawks families but also local businesses to make this event a huge success. Spencer Roofing provided the warehouse to pack up the boxes of cookies and DHL Global with L.S.S. Consulting, Inc. provided the shipping boxes and costs. The Kern family provided all the shipping boxes. |

| On March 3rd, the Hawks and Girl Scout troop opened the warehouse to the public to stop in and make a donation for cookies to send out. Many people that came in also had addresses of their loved ones in Iraq for the Hawks to specially send those servicemen. |
| The many volunteers that came to help sort & box up cookies, fill out custom forms, and make cards of support that were put inside each box were Hawks players and cheerleaders working side by side with their parents,. The atmosphere was energetic with a feeling of accomplishment for all. When the day was over there was a new appreciation of those families that live day in and day out with loved ones fighting in Iraq to protect our freedom in the United States. |
